Ceremony

Those boys from Fredericksburg, Virginia, the Capital of Drone, have done it again. Ceremony have just completed a new EP called Not Tonight on the Custom Made Music label. Not Tonight is set for release on March 29, 2011.

Ceremony are Paul Baker and John Fedowitz. Both share duties on guitar, bass, vocals, drum machines and any other synthetic noise maker they can get their hands on. Paul and John were also two thirds of the highly revered band Skywave along with Oliver Ackermann, now the lead man for A Place To Bury Strangers. When Ollie moved to NYC, Paul and John stuck it out going their own direction, along with a name change to Ceremony. In case you were wondering, yes, that is their little nod to one of their mentors, Joy Division.

Being a two man outfit, you could easily falsely assume that Ceremony would have a smallish sound. You would be greatly mistaken. The guys deliver a big sound with all the drone, bliss and punch you would expect from much larger bands. Their trademark sound is a very deep and powerful one. A sound that pays just as much attention to its melodies and song structures as it does to all that fuzzy drone that all the Shoegazers love them for. All in all, the total package makes each song a fully satisfying experience.

The new EP is called Not Tonight and consists of the following tracks:

1. “Not Tonight”
2. “Leaves Me Cold”
3. “Dreams Stripped Away”
4. “Take You Down”

Ceremony - "Not Tonight" (EP)

You can preview the title track, “Not Tonight”, on Ceremony’s MySpace player. Also, “Not Tonight” is now on regular rotation on Air Atlantic Underground Radio. Of course, you will want your own copy of the EP. Don’t wait until the end of the month; instead, go now to the Custom Made Music website where you can place your pre-order, set to be shipped out on March 29th.

Though Ceremony have played plenty of live shows, most have been in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US. For the first time, the band will venture out throughout continental Europe. If you are in any of these regions, you should take advantage of this rare visit. Below are their European tour dates:

The Air Atlantic Underground

A bit late but, as they say, better late than never. Of course, with the website still in it’s infancy, it’s forgivable.

The following is a list of Air Atlantic Underground Radio’s Best Releases of 2010.

They are in no particular order nor are they necessarily all 2010 releases. Instead, they are what Air Atlantic Underground Radio considers the best newer releases for the 2010 listening year.

You have no idea how much I hate making these lists. How do I remember everything for a whole year? Which do the station’s listeners and I like the best? What is my mood at the time and how it affects my thoughts on what I’m listening to at any given moment? Was it released in the US this year and last in the UK? Screw it! (Guess you can tell that High Fidelity isn’t high on my list of Favorite Movies.) I probably forgot some very good releases and I do apologize in advance. Please feel free to add comments below on your favorites for 2010.

Do be aware that I’m saving a release or two for next year that were technically released in 2010. The kind of stuff that squeezed out just before the year changed over but gets most of its play the following year. (A certain shiny band comes to mind and has already been logged on 2011′s list.)

A big THANK YOU to the following bands for helping Air Atlantic Underground Radio gaze, drone, shimmer and rock throughout 2010 and into the future.
